VIDEO - Charleston's Preferred Roofer Explained in 2 Minutes!

OK, so technically it’s 2:30, but who’s counting, right?

As Charleston’s preferred roofer, Randy Hann spent some time discussing his business with Annie Williams. Check out the video below for a run-down on Contract Exteriors and what makes it the leading company in the Charleston area.

 

Hi! I’m Annie Williams, and today I am here with Randy Hann from Contract Exteriors.

Annie: Thanks for being here.

Randy: No, problem! Thanks for having me!

Annie: And we’d like to talk a little bit about your business and what you guys do.

Randy: We were formed in 2009. We’re a local company, based in Murrells Inlet. We started started the business because I worked in the new construction world for Production Builders across the nation, in Ohio and South Carolina, most importantly. In that time, I was the superintendent of the year for this builder and then I moved into the office and was their purchasing manager.

In that time I was rated one of the 200 top purchasing managers in the nation, nationally -- not just for that builder; but during that time also, I saw a very lack of oriented businesses. Great tradesmen, but terrible business owners.  So, they knew how to put a product on, but they didn’t know how to run a business. I started the business based off that premise -- we are going to start a business to help the consumer, whether it’s a builder or a homeowner.

Because of the builder background, what I did was I actually started in the new construction world. We did that, we grew our business, but we kept getting in these calls from homeowners asking us to do a re-side or a re-roof. And so we were a little hesitant at first, but then we actually said, “Ok! I think we need to do this!” So we took the adage of, if we were going to do something, we were going to do it to the best of our ability, and we are going to earn the designations that a contractor, and more importantly, a business owner should have.

During that time, we became the only James Hardie preferred contractor for the Carolina Coast, which means, when a homeowner goes on their website and types in the zip code for the Grand Strand, we’re the only company that pulls up. We also became a GAF Master Shingle Roof installer, which means we are less than 2% of all roofers across the nation to actually earn that GAF designation. So, what we did was, we took the best products that we thought in the shingle industry and the siding industry and we earned their top designations. When we did that we, we wanted to make sure we had one key element, and a core value to us -- that the customer is number one. What I mean by that is, we’re going to install it the right way, we’re going to be focused on the customer throughout everything, and at the end of the day, we’re gonna make sure it’s done right. So, by doing that, we had a 95% customer satisfaction rating -- year-to-date; so we feel like we’re doing it the right way!
